The Experience

Picturesque, pretty, private and peaceful, Amaroo Farm Shearer’s Hut offers up to two guests, luxury farm cottage serviced accommodation: it is nestled amidst 80 acres of undulating prime farming country. The cottage has a lovely garden facing north with roses while the entire lawn area has laurels planted around the lawn perimeters. The west side has a variety of native plants..

It is secluded and private: The kitchen is modern and fully equipped: the living room has a Ned Kelly wood stove (unlimited wood and kindling kept in a wood shed next to the cottage) with an electric blanket in the bedroom for additional warmth in winter. There is a well-appointed bathroom (shower),  toilet and full laundry facilities.

There is an electric fan in the living room and in the bedroom which provides respite for summer months, as does the ability to open both lounge and master bedroom doors out onto the deck. The covered deck also provides the option to eat and relax outside.

Enjoy the complimentary breakfast starter. We provide complimentary coffee, tea, milk and sugar, cereals, fresh bread, orange juice. Eggs are available for those who wish them provided. All linen and soap are provided. All you need to bring are your personal belongings, food and beverages.

The Farm

Amaroo farm produces low line commercial Angus cattle.

The property is increasingly beginning to produce boysenberries, blackberries, cherries, plums, nectarines and cut flowers. Seasonal vegetables are grown and we enjoy free range eggs.

With three large spring fed dams full of edible yabbies, three smaller dams and a creek running though the beautifully treed gullies, the property attracts boundless wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, wombats and many different bird species.

Guests are free to wander and explore the property at will and can also amble to the Wombat Forest from this property.

The History – ‘Amaroo’

According to proprietorship records provided to us when we purchased ‘Amaroo’ in 2013, this property was first registered in 1871. Over the duration of its history, it has had a number of ownership titles in place.

When renovating and refurbishing Amaroo Farm Cottage, we found newspapers dated 1891 lining the wall cavities when it appeared that the cottage had been given an additional room.

‘Amaroo’ was the name given to the property in 1995 by the then owners. ‘Amaroo’ is an indigenous dialect, meaning ‘a beautiful place.’ We concur.
